Remedies for Pregnancy and Labour

Plato, back in the fifth century BC, said that thoughts, whether they be negative or positive, influence a person's emotional state which in turn  affects their physical body.  I have always believed this very strongly and that is why I am including these remedies in this site.

Australian Bush Flower remedies are the perfect remedies to prescribe during pregnancy because they are safe for the unborn foetus and have a harmonising and balancing effect on the mother.  They are ideal also because many women embark on childbirth wihtout adequate emotional preparation and support.

Giving birth with ease, joy and spontaneity is every woman's right and the mental attitude of the woman and her sense of calm and security is crucial if she is going to cope well with pregnancy and labour and bring a balanced and happy child into the world.

To quote from Ian White's book, "Bush Flower Healing", '... pregnancy can bring up a multitude of feelings and memories, some good, some not so good.  Certainly it is a wonderful time for releasing a lot of negative beliefs and attitudes so that in your new role a parent you project less negativity onto your child.' and

'Having a child is a normal event in life, it is not an illness ... ideally, it is an experience with which she will copy and deal very satisfactorily, with pride and joy, and one from which she will emerge as a more complete person, who will be free to express all the love and nuturing that this new soul requires from her.'

Bush Flower remedies have the potential to help a new mother deal with the many changes in her body, emotions and relationship with her partner, as well as the arrival of a new baby and all that entails.

What sort of things will they treat?

  • Morning Sickness
  • Complex issues like feeling overwhelmed by the responsibility, or rejection by a partner
  • Fear:  Fear is a very real part of pregnancy -
    • fear of the labour
    • fear of the pain
    • fear that the baby won't be healthy
    • fear that the body won't return to its pre-pregnancy shape
    • fear of breastfeeding or fear of the inability to breastfeed
    • sometimes fears are just vague and appear unfounded

When a mother-to-be feels extreme fear the child will pick up on this as extreme fear or major upsets produce catecholamines which cross the placental barrier where, according to one expert (T.  Verney: "the Secret Life of the Unborn Child") they can create fear and anxiety in the baby.

They can also be used to:

  • increase stamina and endurance through the labour
  • provide natural pain relief and are also very good in dealing with any birth trauma, shock or medical intervention such as an emergency caesarean or forceps delivery
